D1 Basketball Player Takes It To The Hole On Legal Research As Summer Associate

Mostly what I was doing was, ‘Hey, I have this issue: These two parties had a contract. This went wrong. How does that play out under Virginia law? How does that play out under New York law?’ It was my job to do some, hopefully, fairly thorough research and find a conclusive answer.

— Team Captain Paul Rowley, a Division I basketball player and rising 2L at William & Mary Law, offering comments on what he did a summer associate at Willcox Savage between basketball training sessions. As soon as he completed the six-week program at the firm, he returned to school for team basketball training. Robert L. Dewey, the firm’s managing partner, says Rowley will “make a great lawyer.”
